Privacy Policy

Hythe is a friendship app for adults in the United States. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over your information. It applies to your use of Hythe at hythe.io and any related services.

Hythe is operated by Noel DeLisle as an individual, based in Tennessee, USA. Contact: hello@hythe.io.

Who Hythe is for

Hythe is only available to people in the United States who are between the ages of 25 and 45. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and accounts are not opened for users outside the supported age range. If we learn we've collected information from someone under 18, we'll delete it.

Information we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your name (or chosen display name), email, and date of birth
  • Your city or general location
  • The interests you select during onboarding
  • A profile photo you upload
  • Optional: a verification selfie if you opt in to the verification feature

As you use Hythe, we collect:

  • Messages you send to matched users
  • Meeting proposals, scheduled meetings, and your feedback on whether a meeting happened
  • Reports and blocks you submit
  • Push notification tokens, if you opt in
  • Basic device and usage information (device type, browser, IP address, timestamps)

We use a third-party error-monitoring service (Sentry) to help us fix bugs. Error reports may include limited diagnostic information about your device and the error itself, but they do not contain your messages or photos.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Match you with other Hythe users each week based on your interests, location, and preferences
  • Facilitate communication between you and your matches
  • Schedule and remind you of in-person meetings
  • Keep Hythe safe through moderation, reports, and account review
  • Improve the matching algorithm and suggest local activities
  • Send you notifications about new matches, messages, and meetings
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your messages or photos to train AI models. We do not run ads.

Who sees what

Other users see:

  • Your first name, age, photo, and interests when you are matched with them
  • The messages you send them
  • The meeting proposals you make to them
  • Whether you confirmed a meeting happened — yes or no, not your written feedback

Service providers we work with see only what they need to operate Hythe:

  • Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, push notifications)
  • Sentry (error monitoring)
  • Email and SMS providers for transactional messages
  • Google and Apple for sign-in

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of users or the public.

If Hythe is acquired or transferred, your information may transfer to the new operator under the same terms.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • View and update your profile in the app
  • Delete your account at any time from Settings — this removes your profile, photos, messages, and matches
  • Opt out of push notifications in your device settings
  • Request a copy of your information by emailing hello@hythe.io
  • Ask us to correct or delete specific information by emailing hello@hythe.io

If you live in California, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what we collect, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information, so the right to opt out of sale doesn't apply — but you can still exercise the other rights by emailing us.

If you live in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have similar rights and can exercise them the same way.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information as long as your account is active. After you delete your account, we remove your profile and content within 30 days, except for:

  • Information we need to keep for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons, which we may retain for up to two years
  • Aggregated or anonymized data that no longer identifies you

Reports about a user's behavior may be retained beyond account deletion for safety review.

Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, private storage buckets, and access controls. No system is perfect, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting you happens, we'll notify you as required by law.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change. The “Last Updated” date at the top tells you when. For significant changes we'll also notify you in the app or by email.
