Community Guidelines
What Hythe is — and isn't.
Hythe exists to help adults make real friendships in real life. That only works if everyone here is here for the same reason and treats each other well. These Guidelines explain what we expect from you and what we won't tolerate.
If you violate these Guidelines, we'll remove content, suspend your account, or ban you. Repeat or serious violations get a permanent ban with no warning.
Be real
- Use your real first name.
- Upload current photos that clearly show your face. No filters that change how you look, no group photos, no celebrities, no AI-generated images.
- Be honest about your age, location, and what you're like.
- One account per person.
If we suspect a profile isn't authentic, we may ask for verification or remove it.
Be respectful
Treat everyone you meet on Hythe the way you'd want to be treated. Disagree without attacking. Decline without insulting. If someone doesn't want to chat or meet, leave them alone — “no” is a complete sentence.
Hythe is for friendship
Hythe is a platonic friendship app. It is not for dating, hookups, hooking up with someone's friends, networking, sales, or anything romantic or sexual.
Don't:
- Send romantic or sexual messages
- Send photos that are sexual or suggestive
- Ask another user out on a date
- Pressure someone for romantic or sexual contact
Violating this gets your account removed. Persistent unwanted attention after someone says no is harassment and gets a permanent ban.
Don't be a jerk
We don't allow:
- Harassment, threats, stalking, or intimidation
- Hate speech or attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected status
- Doxxing or sharing another user's private information
- Sharing screenshots of conversations or photos outside Hythe without permission
- Lying about your identity or impersonating someone else
- Recruiting for MLMs, businesses, religious groups, political campaigns, or fundraisers
- Spam, links to external services, or anything that feels like a sales pitch
- Asking for money, gifts, or personal favors
- Anything illegal
Meet safely
Hythe makes the introduction. You make the meeting work. A few things we expect:
- Meet in a public place — a coffee shop, a park, a restaurant, a bookstore. Not someone's home. Not in private.
- Tell a friend or family member where you'll be and when.
- Drive yourself or arrange your own transportation.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off before or during the meeting, leave.
- If you don't feel safe, contact local authorities first. Then report it to us.
Hythe doesn't conduct background checks. We rely on you to use good judgment and on each other to report behavior that crosses a line.
Report it
If you see something that violates these Guidelines — in messages or in person — report it. Open the user's profile or the chat and tap Report. Tell us what happened.
You can also block any user at any time. Blocking removes the match, ends the conversation, and prevents future matches between you.
We review every report. We won't tell the reported user who reported them. If something serious or dangerous happens, contact local law enforcement first, then email hello@hythe.io so we can act.
Consequences
When you violate these Guidelines, we may:
- Warn you
- Remove the content
- Limit your account temporarily
- Suspend your account
- Permanently ban you and prevent future signups
Serious violations — threats, harassment, hate speech, illegal conduct, predatory behavior, soliciting minors — result in immediate permanent ban and, where appropriate, a report to law enforcement.
A final note
Hythe is a small community trying to do something hard: help people make adult friendships in a world that doesn't make it easy. Show up the way you'd want someone to show up for you. That's most of the job.
